Asami’s Formal Dress from Legend of Korra
Asami (voiced by Seychelle Gabriel) is probably the most mature and steady of Korra’s group. She carries herself with a sense of calm and collected poise that runs counter to the chaos the group so often experiences. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have her breaking point or that she doesn’t feel deeply for her people, and for Korra most of all.
Asami is fashion-forward and has several looks throughout the series. But her formal look is one of her most striking and it is one that can be replicated with just a little DIY. A high-collared sleeveless red gown can be altered with just a few snips at the neckline to create the keyhole in the chest and the curved angle of collar similar to Asami’s gown. Fabric Fusion will glue the seams down from the cut edges, creating a smooth finish in the area and preventing any runs or fraying. And it can be used to glue on a bow made of burgundy cord.
With that bit of DIY done, all you need is a long brown wig, gold decorative hair clips, stacked gold bracelets, and vintage-style black heels.
Princess Yue
Princess Yue is a character in Avatar: The Last Airbender. She was the sixteen year old princess of the Northern Water Tribe. When the Avatar crew arrive at the North Pole, Sokka becomes smitten with her beauty. The two pursued a romantic relationship despite her betrothal to a Northern warrior named Hahn. When Admiral Zhao tries to conquer the kingdom, Yue led Aang and Katara to the Spirits Oasis so he could enter the Spirit World. Kissing Sokka goodbye, she sacrificed herself to the Moon Spirit to stop Zhao from rendering all waterbenders powerless. Sokka never forgot Yue, and she returned in her spirit form to help Aang reconnect with his past lives.
Avatar Kyoshi
Kyoshi is a character in the Nickelodeon series Avatar: The Last Airbender. She was a previous Avatar who came from the Earth kingdom. She created an era of peace by vanquishing Chin the Conquerer. According to legend, she was a ruthless, fearsome warrior — who also had rather long feet! Her legacy carries on with the Dai Li, as well as the Kyoshi warriors, an all-female group who fight and defend in her honor. When applying the makeup, you can use this image of Kyoshi for reference. Use the white face paint as the base, the red face paint for the eyes, and black eyeliner for the wings and brows.
Asami Sato from Legend of Korra
Asami Sato is a major character in Nickelodeon’s Legend of Korra, the continuation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. We’re first introduced to Asami after she hits Mako with her motorbike. They quickly get into a relationship, which upsets Korra, because she had a crush on Mako. On their date, it’s revealed that Asami is the daughter of Hiroshi Sato, the wealthy inventor of motorbikes. While Asami is a non-bender, she joins Team Avatar to defeat Amon. This proves an emotional struggle because she must betray her father. Upon his sacrificial death, she takes over the company, starting a career in business and industrialization as the CEO of Future Industries. At the end of the series, Asami begins a relationship with Korra.
Aang from Avatar: The Last Airbender
Aang is a youthful Avatar, originating from the lost Airbender tribe. He’s discovered by a young Water Nation girl named Katara, mysteriously encased in a block of ice. His childhood began ages ago, with most of his friends from his early memories having grown up. Luckily for him, he finds friendship and camaraderie with Katara, her brother Sokka, and even an old foe. But can they keep his childish nature in check so he can save the world?
Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender
Katara is a teenage girl from the Water Tribe with waterbending abilities. One fateful day, on an outing with her older brother Sokka, she encounters a young boy seemingly trapped inside an iceberg hundreds of times his size. That boy is the Avatar, a master bender of the four elements. Katara and Sokka become his friends and allies, protecting him (and sometimes keeping his natural childishness in check) on a harrowing, three-season adventure. Katara dresses warmly to suit the icy climate she grew up in – to imitate the heavy fur robe she wears, you can add fur trim to the collar and hem of the wrap dress we’ve listed above. To achieve Katara’s hairstyle, check out this tutorial from Sil Vous Plaits.
Prince Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender
Prince Zuko of the Fire Kingdom is originally Avatar: The Last Airbender’s antagonist voiced by Dante Basco. Over time his character really develops allowing the viewer to see all sides of his complex life story. This is a fun cosplay for people that love to work with makeup. Recreating Zuko’s burn scars may take some time and patience but will look amazing if you do it right.
