Linh Song from Keeper of the Lost Cities

Linh Song is a character from Susan Messenger’s Keeper of the Lost Cities book series.  Linh is an elf with hydrokinetic powers and an ally of Sophie Foster.  She also has a twin brother named Tam.  When recreating Linh’s look, it’s important to remember you may not be able to find exact replicas of her costume.  Instead, focus on similar color palettes and silhouettes.  You can layer a turtleneck under a sleeveless piece, or opt for a darker color or shorter-sleeved tunic instead, depending on your preference and which you think is closest.  Pinning the wig’s bangs to the side will make it look more like Linh’s side-swept hair, or if you have long black hair already, you can dye the tips with temporary silver spray.  If you’re crafty, you might be able to replicate Linh’s crest-shaped brooch with a little DIY.  Otherwise, a pin with two wolves can serve in its place.

“Think About Things” Elf from Just Dance 2022

In Just Dance 2022, Daði Freyr’s pop song “Think About Things” is accompanied by a music video featuring a dancing holiday elf named Flake. The elf wears a blue outfit, with a single green glove and mismatched shoes. We opted for royal blue rather than the more accurate light blue since items are easier to source in this color. Add faux fur trim to your sweater and pants, and you’re ready to dance.

elrond the hobbit character

Elrond in The Hobbit

Elrond is a minor character in The Hobbit. He is the wise and noble half-elf who rules Rivendell, as its original founder. He is also the father of Arwen. He offers shelter to  Bilbo Baggins and his company of dwarves. He befriends Bilbo and gives him advice for his quest. When Bilbo leaves The Shire for good, Elrond gives him permanent residence in Rivendell. In the film adaptation, Hugo Weaving plays this role. Elrond appears again with a more pivotal role in Lord of the Rings.

elrond lotr character

Elrond in Lord of the Rings

Elrond is a minor character in Lord of the Rings. He is the wise and noble half-elf who rules Rivendell, as its original founder. He is also the father of Arwen. When Gandalf resists asking more from Frodo, he persuades Fellowship to continue its journey of destroying the Ring. This leads to his formation of the Council of Elrond. In the film adaptation, Hugo Weaving plays this role. This look requires some minor crafting, as you’ll need the silver puff paint to draw the pattern on the coat. Tuck the red scarf into the brown cummerbund so it drapes over.

Prince Nuada Silverlance from Hellboy

Prince Nuada Silverlance from Hellboy II: The Golden Army

Hellboy II: The Golden Army was the second Hellboy movie directed by Guillermo del Toro. It bears his trademark style of the darkly fantastic and nowhere is this mor clear than in the design of Prince Nuada Silverlance, the last heir of Bethmoora.

The elves seem to draw fashion inspiration from all over and Nuda is a perfect example of this. His usual costume is tight black fabric with leather armor pieces over the top. A red waist sash is nearly the only color aside from the yellowed tips of his hair. Finding wigs with his specific coloring is difficult so you will have to add the darker tips in yourself.

It is also hard to get a replica of Nuada’s blade. Most of the ones currently on the market run between $300 and $600. Cosplayers can substitute short blades like those pictured above or they can try their hand at making their own blade out of foam or plastic. Or, if they’re lucky, a 3-D printer!

galadriel lotr character

Galadriel

Galadriel is a character in The Lord of the Rings. Possessing exceptional beauty and wisdom, she is one of the greatest elves of Middle Earth. She is also extremely powerful. In fact, her magical abilities are akin to that of Gandalf. This is in part to her possession of one of the Great Rings, Nenya, or the Ring of Adamant. She is admired by everyone, especially Gimli, who is in awe of her magnificent presence. Her mirror allows seekers to see possible events of the future. Galadriel gives each member of the Fellowship an Elven cloak as well as a gift. She gifts Frodo with a phial that shines bright in the dark. You can use a crystal rose quartz as her phial. In the film adaptation, Cate Blanchett plays this role.

Tauriel from The Hobbit

Tauriel from The Hobbit

Tauriel (played by Evangeline Lily) is a career soldier. She is loyal to her people and the Middle Earth as a whole. Her loyalty to good is so strong that it lands her at odds with her own leader but she still has to do what’s right.

Cosplaying Tauriel is much the same as cosplaying any Tolkien. A green tunic, brown braces, brown quiver, brown leather vest, and brown boots make up her clothing. An elven bow and blade are her weapons of choice. And of course no Tauriel costume would be complete without her long ginger hair and pointy ears. The ears featured above are blue as a base color so that ever cosplayer can customize them to their specific skin tone.

Arwen Lord of the Rings Character

Arwen

Arwen is a minor character in The Lord of the Rings. Her full name is referred to as Arwen Undomiel or Arwen Evenstar. She is the daughter of the Elrond, the half-elf Lord of Rivendell, and an Celebrian, an elven noblewoman. Tolkien describes her as one of the most beautiful elves, resembling her ancestor Luthien. Like her ancestor, she falls in love with a man. Like Luthien loved Beren, Arwen loved Aragorn. When he is crowned King of Gondor, they marry, and she becomes queen. She decides to stay mortal so she can die with Aragorn. While she never appears in the books, Arwen appears in all three film adaptations. She carries Frodo across the Ford of Bruinen and fights the Orcs with her sword, Hadhafang. The role is played by actress Liv Tyler.

Fargoth

Fargoth from The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

“I have a feeling you and I are going to become very close…” Fargoth, among other things, is the first NPC you’ll encounter after leaving the Census and Excise building in Seyda Neen. Watch out for that annoying Hrisskar Flat-Foot who enjoys shaking you down, perhaps a little too much. You’ve only got 300 gold coins to your name and you’d better keep an eye on them. Maybe you’ll even get your Engraved Ring of Healing back one day. A good tailor will be able to hem the sleeves of that tunic so it matches nicely.
