Hinata Hyuga

A soft-spoken, polite, kind girl, Hinata Hyuga appears on the surface to be ill-suited to the life of a ninja on the anime TV series Naruto. She is the heir of a powerful and wealthy clan, but they disowned her because of her meek disposition. Once she joins Team 8 and meets Naruto, however, she begins to find her confidence and develop her exceptional skills. In Part 1 of the series she wears her hair in a short bob and covers up in a tan coat and dark pants. Sew on a thick trim of white fur to the jacket and paint on the leaf patch for the full effect.

Gaara

In the anime TV series Naruto, Gaara is a ninja-in-training from the sand village Suna and, at first, the rival of titular character Naruto. He is a dark, solitary boy who grew up alone in his village because he carries within him the powerful and monstrous One-Tailed Shukaku. Because of this he vowed to live for himself alone, killing those who crossed his path. In Part 1 of the series he wears a black outfit with a white sash and carries his signature sand gourd on his back. For his brown sash, use a piece of thick fabric for the main part and then sew on stripes of faux leather with a silver buckle at each end.

Sakura Haruno

A member of legendary ninja Team 7 on the hit anime series Naruto, Sakura Haruno is a sensitive, kind, slightly wacky girl with a crush on fellow teammate Sasuke. She is the smartest of the bunch, but as a counterbalance requires the most extensive physical training to catch up to her teammates – which she handily does. This guide covers her outfit for Part 1, a red quipao dress and shorts appropriate for ninja training.

Neji Hyuga

Neji Hyuga believes himself to be a rare prodigy and exceptional ninja among the young ninjas-in-training on the anime series Naruto. Unfortunately, he was born into a branch of the clan that must serve the main house, and so feels shafted by fate. Because of this he acts out against the main house clan members and views those with less or different talents as ‘weaker’ than himself. In Part 1 of the series he wears a bland beige and grey outfit with long brown hair and his clan’s pale white eyes. For the top, crop the sleeves of a zip-up hoodie and buy patches of similar color to sew on overtop.

Kabuto Yakushi

As the right-hand man of series villain Orochimaru, Kabuto Yakushi acts as a spy in the anime TV series Naruto. He spent his life training and then serving as a spy for multiple organizations, eventually attracting the attention of Orochimaru. He excels at collecting information and exhibits strong medicinal talents. Eventually he has an existential crisis about his identity and place in the world, leading him down a much different path. His Part 1 outfit requires a little bit of altering: buy a large dark grey turtleneck a few sizes too big and crop off the sleeves. If you can’t find cropped dark grey pants, crop a regular pair.

Chocho Akimichi from Naruto

Chocho Akimichi

In Naruto, Chocho Akimichi is a kunoichi and a member of the Akimichi clan. She is dark skinned and has amber colored eyes, which she gets from her mother. And like her father, she never turns down a chance to eat, although she has thicker skin when the subject of her weight comes up.

Sasuke

Sasuke Uchiha

Sasuke Uchiha is the silent, brooding, angst-ridden member of ninja Team 7 in the anime TV series Naruto. One of the last members of his clan and the brother of the man who killed the rest, he dedicates his life to exterminating his brother. His fanatical obsession with achieving that goal leads him to abandon Team 7 and his ninja training, eventually becoming an international criminal. This guide covers his outfit in Part 1, well before he attains international infamy. It is a simple outfit of a blue high-collared shirt and white pants. For the shirt, order it a size or two up, trim the sleeves and pop the collar. Also trim the arm warmers and stitch on the blue details.

Shikamaru Nara

The laziest of the bunch and least inclined to fight, Shikamaru Nara is a ninja-in-training and member of Team 10 on the anime series Naruto. A brilliant, strategic mind allows him to sleep during class, avoid all work, exert minimal effort and still succeed in all his tasks and win physical battles. This guide cover his Part 1 genin outfit at the very beginning of his training. The tricky part is his jacket – buy a large grey bolero shrug (yes, the men too), crop the sleeves and add the green trim/details. If you can’t find short pants, crop a regular-length pair.

Rock Lee

Despite a lack of skill in ninjutsu and genjutsu, Rock Lee devoted himself to the mastery of Taijutsu and landed himself a spot on Team Guy in the anime series Naruto. An enthusiastic, optimistic boy with boundless energy, he holds himself to near impossible standards, rigorous training methods and oath-bound promises. In Part 1 of the series he wears a green outfit with white wraps and some seriously intense eyebrows.

Naruto Uzumaki

Naruto Uzumaki is often ridiculed by the Konohagakure villagers, but he compensates with his cheerful and boisterous personality, vowing to never give up on any goal he sets. Chief among them are his ambitions to become village chief, to gain the villagers’ respect and be able to protect both them and the world.
