In Guy Ritchie’s 2009 rendition, Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) is an eccentric detective in the 1800s hired by a secret society to foil a mysticist’s plot to expand the British Empire by supernatural means.

Tony Stark is Iron Man, a billionaire playboy and ingenious engineer who, after being kidnapped, builds a powered suit of armor to escape captivity. As a free man, he continues to build new models of the suit, wearing them while playing the hero.
