Bruno Mars from Die With A Smile
Die With A Smile is a brand new song featuring both Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars. The music video released along with it, which has bright fashions that are 70s inspired, and remind us of artists like Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton. This would make a great duo costume with the matching look Lady Gaga wore in the video.
To dress like Bruno Mars in the video, wear a turquoise blue suit over a partly unbuttoned red button down shirt. For the suit jacket, cut off of the bottom hem to square it off and fold under to make a clean hem (sewing and ironing flat if possible). You can also remove the buttons for a more cohesive look. Pair this with an off-white cowboy hat, a gold cross necklace, and any dress shoes.
Bandit from Smokey and the Bandit
Bandit is the main character from the 1977 film, Smokey and the Bandit, and is played by Burt Reynolds. It follows Bandit as he attempts to illegally transport beer and ends up on a high-speed chase.
To dress like Bandit, wear a tan cowboy hat, a red wrangler shirt, western-style blue jeans, brown cowboy boots, and a brown western belt with a silver and turquoise buckle. Optionally, you can also add a black leather jacket over it.
Jean and Gene Thibedeau from The Umbrella Academy
In season 4 of The Umbrella Academy, Jean (Megan Mullally) and Gene Thibedeau (Nick Offerman) are a married couple, just like their real-life counterparts. They’re the mysterious leaders of a group called The Keepers. Besides being cult leaders, in their off-time they enjoy dancing to Cher, milking alpacas, and wearing matching western wear.
Sheriff Jake from Strange Way of Life
Sheriff Jake is one of the main characters from the Pedro Almodovar short film Strange Way of Life, and is played by Ethan Hawke. This western film is in a way Almodovar’s own take on Brokeback Mountain, which he was originally meant to direct but wasn’t fully allowed to create it in his own way. This short is his answer to that. The film follows Silva who after twenty five years, rides across the desert to visit Sheriff Jake, but Jake believes he is there for an ulterior motive.
Jake wears a navy blazer, black cowboy hat, blue shirt, black western bow tie, sheriff badge, black pants, and black cowboy boots.
Silva from Strange Way of Life
Silva is one of the main characters from the Pedro Almodovar short film Strange Way of Life, and is played by Pedro Pascal.
Silva wears a green jacket, red and orange flannel shirt, navy neck scarf, deep brown pants, and distressed dark cowboy boots. In some scenes he also wears a deep brown cowboy hat.
Chappell Roan from ‘Pink Pony Club’ Music Video
Chappell Roan is a rising singer-songwriter that has a unique style when it comes to her stage costumes. She is inspired by drag and isn’t afraid to go all out glam in her performances. Her fans have taken a love to her style and share their concert-going costumes and outfits online where they show off their creativity by recreating her looks and making their own.
One look that would be great to recreate is from her music video for one of her breakout songs Pink Pony Club. To create this look, wear an embellished denim jacket and either glue or sew on more metallic fringe and trims. Under that wear a white bodysuit or leotard like the one here with fringe, and add more trim to the piece and the hem at the legs. Pair this with silver fringe cowboy boots and a white cowboy hat.
Doc Holliday
Doc Holliday is a character in the American Western film Tombstone (1993). Although portrayed by Val Kilmer in the movie, he was actually a real person in history. In the mid 1800s, Doc was an actual cowboy, gunman, and gambler, as well as close friend and associate of lawman Wyatt Earp. He played a significant role in the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, developing a reputation of killing more than a dozen men in his altercations.
Mattie Ross from True Grit (2010)
In the 2010 movie True Grit, Mattie Ross (played by Hailee Steinfeld) is a headstrong young 14-year-old girl who enlists the help of U.S. Marshal and bounty hunger Reuben J. “Rooster” Cogburn to bring the man who killed her father to justice. Cogburn initially tells Mattie to return home but she insists on accompanying him on his quest to track down Tom Chaney, and she eventually proves herself a capable ally. Mattie wears her father’s coat and hat, which are clearly too large for her, over her Victorian period clothing. You can find a replica bodice jacket online, but if the cost is too high, you can also use a modern blazer with a similar silhouette.
Daniel Plainview from There Will Be Blood
Daniel Plainview (played by Daniel Day-Lewis) is not what you would call a nice guy. And that’s not at all surprising given that he’s based of a real-life oil tycoon. The wild west was, well, wild. And the oil tycoons were some of the roughest of all. A fact Daniel Day-Lewis doesn’t let the audience forget!
Amassing the wealth of an oil baron isn’t exactly easy. And I wouldn’t recommend running around a convention acting like Plainview. But you can copy his look pretty easily! Start with a brown felt hat and a good pair of brown boots. Add those to a brown three-piece suit and a white button down shirt. Finish off the look with a pocket watch on a chain and you’re ready for your own wild west adventure.
James West from The Wild Wild West
Pitched as “James Bond of the Wild West,” Jim West was the anachronistically tech-savvy, brawling, and oh, so debonair Secret Service agent for President Ulysses S. Grant. Together with his partner, Artemus Gordon (Ross Martin), the wild, wild West (Robert Conrad) traveled the country by train and stopped various threats to the nation’s security following the Civil War. Did he get sidetracked by beautiful women, stuntmen, and steampunk-esque obstacles along the way? Of course, but that’s all part of what made this classic western show all the more entertaining.
