Darrel "Darry" Curtis Jr. is a character in The Outsiders. He is the oldest Curtis brother and leader of the household. Since the passing of their parents, he has taken on the role of a parental figure. Darrel is mostly serious, but at times his concern for his younger siblings can manifest into anger, which causes him to act rashly. Ponyboy describes his older brother as "someone who grew up too fast and handling things no one his age should have to." Patrick Swayze plays Darrel in the 1983 movie adaptation.
