In Brawl Stars, Dynamike is an old-timey miner with a short fuse and explosive temper. As a brawler, Dynamike has low health and extremely high damage output, lobbing dynamite sticks and the barrel bomb strapped to his back to deal splash damage. There’s also Coach Dynamike that features him dressed comfortably in athleisure.

In Brawl Stars, Shelly is a versatile starter brawler who is available at the beginning of the game. She has moderate health and damage, with a shotgun that is effective at close to medium range. Shelly’s favorite color is purple, which she wears from head to toe.

Misunderstood and bullied since childhood, blue-skinned shapeshifter Mystique (played onscreen by Jennifer Lawrence and Rebecca Romijn) truly understands anti-mutant oppression. Her early experiences of mistreatment shaped her stance in the fight for mutant equality — or even dominance, as her leader, Magneto, gravitates towards.

Mystique is easily remembered for her onscreen appearances wearing only the strategically-placed blue scales she was born with (requiring Rebecca Romijn to spend hours in the makeup room), but comic book portrayals have been slightly more favorable to cosplayers attending family-friendly venues. You could buy the blue jumpsuit and stop there, but I’ve included some additional garments which draw inspiration from my personal favorite Mystique look from the retro X-Men arcade game.

Detective Miles Hoffman (played by Michael Ealy) is an intense and dedicated detective at the Portland Police Department who is quickly pulled into both the personal and professional life of Dex Parios during a kidnapping case. On the TV show Stumptown, based on the comics, Detective Hoffman is one of the more fashion-forward characters, wearing business casual plain clothes as he tracks down the city’s criminals.

Medli is a young, kindhearted Rito (bird person) living on Dragon Roost Island. She befriends Link on his oft-sidetracked quest to rescue his little sister during the events of The Wind Waker, and assists him in her capacity as the apprentice caretaker of Valoo the dragon. When I first saw this character while playing The Wind Waker for the first time, I immediately fell in love with her cute aesthetic and kindhearted nature. Naturally, I had to recreate her costume!

Raphina is an aspiring model approached by Conor Lalor to star in a music video for his band. She’s a fashionista with a cool outer appearance. Inside, she fights with the uncertainty of her life. Raphina, played by Lucy Boynton, learns more about the band members while chasing after her dream of being a London model in Sing Street.

Susie Carmichael (voiced by Cree Summer) is a recurring character from the Nickelodeon shows Rugrats and All Grown Up!  Susie possesses a strong sense of self and what is right, which often puts her at odds with Angelica Pickles, though the two girls are usually friends.  To recreate Susie’s original outfit, painting the abstract flowers using purple fabric paint onto a yellow dress is the best way to achieve the iconic look, though you can also use a yellow dress with any floral pattern.  Susie wears a number of different outfits in the All Grown Up! series, but she often sports cropped shirts and wide leg jeans.

In Midsommar, Maja (played by Isabelle Grill) is a young woman who uses strange rituals and psychedelic drugs to seduce Dani’s boyfriend Christian in order to have sex with him and become pregnant. A very quiet girl, she is transformed after her encounter with Christian, wearing red lipstick and more brightly colored clothing to signify her fertility.

Athena Cykes works for famed Ace Attorney Phoenix Wright at the Wright Anything Agency. A childhood trauma led her to a career in law. With her sensitive hearing and training in Europe as an analytical psychologist, she’s especially skilled at picking up on witnesses’ vocal tells, which she uses to her advantage in the court room.
