Level-headed and pragmatic, Oluwande tries to steer the other characters away from danger. He is sympathetic towards Stede, especially with his internal crisis after the murder. The others look to Oluwande for sound advice as well, making him well-liked and highly respected among the crew. Oluwande is especially close with Jim. While he acts as a confidant and conscience, he wishes Jim would view him as more than a friend.
Spanish Jackie from Our Flag Means Death
Spanish Jackie is a minor antagonist in HBO Max’s Our Flag Means Death. A powerful and feared pirate with 19 husbands, she owns a tavern in Republic of Pirates. She seeks revenge for the death of her late husband who was killed by Jim, formerly known as Bonifacia Jimenez. He almost kills Stede for knocking over her nose jar, but the news of Blackbeard’s interest gets him off the hook. Her name comes from an actual legend, though there is no evidence if she was a real person. In the show, she admits she’s not even Spanish. Comedian Leslie Jones, who you may recognize from Ghostbusters and Saturday Night Live, portrays this role.
Stede Bonnet from Our Flag Means Death
Stede Bonnet is a main character in HBO Max’s Our Flag Means Death. Portrayed by comedian Rhys Darby, he is the captain of the ship Revenge. Unhappy with wealthy, domestic life, he leaves his family to pursue a career in pirating. He dubs himself “The Gentleman Pirate,” since he’d rather “talk it out” than resort to violence. As a result, his crew views him as a coward (which he is). He doesn’t earn their respect until he accidentally murders a British naval officer, which attracts the attention of Blackbeard. The two captains meet and form an unlikely friendship that blossoms into romance. Stede teaches Blackbeard about high society, while Blackbeard teaches Stede how to be a confident leader — and they both teach each other what true love means.
Blackbeard from Our Flag Means Death
Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard, is a main character in HBO Max’s Our Flag Means Death. Show producer Taika Waititi, who also directed Thor: Ragnarok and What We Do In The Shadows, stars in this role. Inspired by the legendary pirate, he expresses boredom with his bloodthirsty life, and wishes to abandon the title. After rescuing Stede Bonnet from death, he takes a keen interest in his life aboard the Revenge. He originally plots to steal his identity and kill Stede, but the two develop a close friendship that blossoms into romance. As his name suggests, he wears all black. Use the Sharpie to darken the mustache and roots of the beard. Use a pair of scissors to cut at the shoulder on one side of the long sleeve shirt.
The Joker from Harley Quinn
The Joker (Alan Tudyk) is the main antagonist in DC Universe’s animated series Harley Quinn, which now streams on HBO Max. Of course he rules Gotham as the clown prince of crime and rival to none other than Batman. At the start, his girlfriend is Harley Quinn. Although Harley realizes his obsession with Batman overshadows their romantic relationship. She dumps the Joker so she can stop relying on him and prove herself as a villain. When she joins the Legion of Doom, the exes turn to rivals. The Joker becomes a major character in season two when his evil plans come to fruition.
Armond from The White Lotus
Armond (played by Murray Bartlett) is the manager of the titular luxury resort on HBO’s The White Lotus Armond is five years sober at the beginning of the series, though having to deal with many of the Lotus’ high-maintenance guests, including Shane Patton and Tanya McQuoid test his resolve. Armond wears many colorful outfits, often layering blazers over floral-printed shirts that mesh well with the exotic locale, making for a fun and customizable costume.
Red Hood from Titans
HBO Max introduced Jason Todd as Red Hood in season three of their Titans show. The look was hyped for months beforehand and not just by Curran Walters, the man under the hood. Fans everywhere were dying to see what HBO would give them and they were not disappointed.
Recreating Red Hood’s look is no easy feat. And it starts with the mask. Unless you’re an experienced crafter and cosplayer, your best bet is to get one from Etsy. They tend to sell out very quickly and you might have to purchase a 3D printer pattern and have an Etsy printer run one off for you. Then, of course, you need a red zip up hoodie and a brown leather jacket. Under that you’ll want the chest piece which is pretty easily replicated with a paintball vest and fabric paint. Because the vest is black, you’ll want to paint the bat symbol first in white and then in red so the red will show up against the background. Finally, to finish off the upper layer you’ll need a pair of motorcycle gloves.
The bottom half of the costume consists of a pair of motorcycle pants, two thigh holsters, two costume pistols, a tactical belt, and a pair of brown leather work boots. Todd also has a pair of leg bracers that go down over his boots. You can purchase the leg portion premade and then fashion the section over his toes with craft foam and silver adhesive vinyl.
It’s a costume with a pretty steep level of investment. For for Red Hood fans it is worth it.
Superboy from Titans
On the TV show Titans, Conner (played by Joshua Orpin) is a Kryptonian/human hybrid who is also known as Subject 13 and Superboy. Superboy’s powers include solar energy absorption, much like Superman, which allows him to heal himself, as well as exhibit superhuman speed, stamina, hearing, and strength. Superboy’s costume is very simple to recreate, and includes a black t-shirt with the red Superman insignia, blue cargo pants, and black tactical boots.
Batman from Harley Quinn
There are so many Batman variations that it can be a little hard to keep up with. But this version (voiced by Diedrich Bader) is unique in both his snark and the way he handles Harley Quinn. He’d have to be. This Harley isn’t your usual Harley. And when the lines between good guy and bad guy get blurred, things are bound to get interesting!
Batman’s costume in the show is pretty straightforward. He has a black cowl and a black cape that he wears over a grey body suit with the bat insignia on the chest. Because the insignia is a little different from most you can buy pre-made, you’re better off painting it on with black fabric paint. A yellow belt, black gloves, and black boots round out the look. You can add some bat-themed weapons and you’ll be ready to scour the streets of Gotham for evildoers!
Marcus from Raised by Wolves
Marcus (played by Travis Fimmel) is one of the main characters of the HBO Max show Raised by Wolves. He is a follower of the Mithraic faith, and eventually becomes the leader of a group of humans who have relocated to the planet Kepler-22b in order to escape an Earth ravaged by war. Marcus finds himself in conflict with Mother, an android who was previously sent to Kepler-22b with Father and human embryos in an effort to begin populating the new planet. Marcus’ clothing is tactical in feel and mostly white. If you have some skill with a paintbrush, you could paint the Mithraic sun symbol onto a white tunic. Otherwise, a Crusader costume will help evoke the same feel. For a little extra detail, use an FX kit to recreate the scarring on the right side of Marcus’ face.
