Annabeth Chase (2023)
Annabeth Chase (Leah Jeffries) is a major character in Percy Jackson and the Olympians, streaming on Disney+. Based on the novels by Rick Riordan, Annabeth is a fourteen year old demigod or “half-blood.” She’s the daughter of Athena, goddess of wisdom and war. She ran away from home at seven and traveled with Luke and Thalia. Grover also escorted her to Camp Half Blood. She meets Percy at camp and recruits him for Capture the Flag, using him as a distraction to win the game. Luke describes her as “six steps ahead of everyone else,” a nod to her infallible intelligence and strategy. Her major ambition is to go on a quest, and she joins Percy and Grover to find Zeus’ master bolt. Her signature accessory is her Yankees cap, a gift from her mother, which renders the wearer invisible.
Mr. D (Dionysus)
Mr. D – short for Dionysus – is a character in Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+ based on the novels by Rick Riordan. Dionysus is the Greek god of wine. As punishment for going after his favorite wood nymph, Zeus punishes his son to be the camp director at Camp Half Blood for one-hundred years. He’s pretty miserable, especially because he’s forbidden to drink wine…doomed to only drink Diet Coke. In the live action series, Jason Mantzoukas portrays Mr. D with spot-on sarcasm and humor.
Percy Jackson
“Look, I didn’t want to be a half blood…”Percy Jackson is the protagonist of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians books written by Rick Riordan. He has trouble in school, because like other demigods, he has dyslexia and ADHD because his brain is hardwired for ancient Greek. After defeating his teacher, Mrs. Dodds, who was actually a Fury, he gets sent to Camp Half Blood. He meets Annabeth Chase, who calls him “Seaweed Brain,” but she eventually becomes his girlfriend. While there, he learns he is the son of Poseidon. Percy goes on several quests as a part of his coming of age, which culminate in the defeat of the Kronos in the body of Luke. He deeply cares for his friends, as well as his mother, Sally Jackson. His fatal flaw in the Prophecy is personal loyalty, and his sword, Riptide, can turn into a pen. Fun fact: Percy only eats blue food.
