Movies
Vladislav from What We Do in the Shadows
Vladislav a main character in What We Do in the Shadows, a horror mockumentary about the lives of four vampires. Known as Vladislav the Poker, he was once a tyrant with incredible powers. Vladislav can turn into a cat, but he never gets the face right. He enjoys chaos and taking selfies. Jemaine Clement plays this role, and wrote and directed the movie alongside Takia Waititi, who plays Viago. This is his outfit from the party fight scene, when the other vampires try to eat their human friend, Stu. To make the jacket pop, use silver puff paint to draw the design along the sides.
Bonnie Anderson from Toy Story 3
Bonnie Anderson is the new protagonist of Toy Story 3 and Toy Story 4. Known for her trademark pink tutu, Bonnie attends kindergarten at Sunnyside Daycare. In the third movie, when Andy goes off to college, he gives all his toys to Bonnie. Despite her shyness around adults, she has an active imagination when playing with the toys. In the fourth movie, she creates her own toy named Forky.
Cherry from Words Bubbling Up Like Cider
Cherry is bad at communicating with others. He usually keeps his headphones on, and channels his energy into writing haikus. He meets Smile by literally bumping into her at a mall causing the incident that starts their friendship. Cherry connects with Smile the way he can’t with others in Words Bubbling Up Like Cider (Cider no You ni Kotoba ga Wakiagaru).
Henry Sherman from The Royal Tenenbaums
In The Royal Tenenbaums, Henry Sherman (played by Danny Glover) is Etheline Tenenbaum‘s accountant-turned-husband. When Etheline’s ex-husband Royal lies about his health to regain her favor, Henry investigates only to discover the hoax. Henry is a kind man who cares deeply for Etheline. His clothing is simple, but elegant and falls in line with his profession as an accountant.
Etheline Tenenbaum from The Royal Tenenbaums
In Wes Anderson’s The Royal Tenenbaums, Etheline (played by Anjelica Huston) is the ex-wife of Royal Tenenbaum and mother to Chas, Richie, and Margot. Etheline is elegant and intelligent, always pushing her children to be more driven and successful. Etheline often wears hues of cream and light pink while wearing her hair in a bun secured with a pencil.
Ashley from WarioWare
Ashley (most recently voice by Erica Lindbeck) is a witch-in-training that largely appears in the Wario games. She makes a few appearances in other Nintendo franchises like Super Smash Bros. but for the most part she is a character in Wario minigames. Her interests are almost solely related to becoming a better witch while her demon friend, Red, takes care of most everything else.
Cosplaying as Ashley is thankfully more straight-forward than her magic spells are! You need a long black wig that you style into pigtails. A little orange ha and an orange neck scarf with a skull brooch act as accessories while a red dress, black tights, and red shoes make up the outfit. A little stuffed demon finishes off the costume as your very own Red!
Karl Mordo
Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) is an antagonist in Marvel’s Doctor Strange. In the comics, he is referred to as Baron Mordo, though a few different characters make up the movie’s portrayal. Once a sorcerer, he is a former member of the Masters of the Mystic Arts. At first, he is a student under the Ancient One and a mentor to Stephen. But when he realizes the truth about the Ancient One, Mordo cannot cope, which gives way to his reveal. In a post credit scene, Mordo confronts Pangborn and steals the mystical energy he uses to walk, which hints at his larger role as a villain in the upcoming sequel. Cut one sleeve off of the gray sweater. You can use the blue arm sleeve in the guide, or sew on a sleeve from a separate blue sweater.
Royal Tenenbaum from The Royal Tenenbaums
Royal Tenenbaum (played by Gene Hackman) is the titular father from Wes Anderson’s film The Royal Tenenbaums. Estranged from his ex-wife Etheline and distanced from his genius children Richie, Chas, and Margot, Royal fakes stomach cancer in a desperate bid to regain their favor and love. Royal is a larger-than-life personality who wears slick suits and smokes using a cigarette holder while gambling, shoplifting, and getting to know his family again.
Dorothy Vallens from Blue Velvet
Dorothy Vallens played by Isabella Rossellini is a performer at The Slow Club. Her favorite song to perform is Blue Velvet by Bobby Vinton. Recently her life has taken a turn for the worse and her son has been kidnapped by the violent drug dealer Frank Booth who is also her abusive partner and main suspect of a murder case in Lumberton. Jeffrey, a young college student, begins to investigate the murders on his own outside of police jurisdiction. Him and Dorothy become a lot closer and he helps her save her son. Dorothy’s character is complex. She has been abused physically and emotionally and is currently under Frank’s control. She is very unsafe and it dwindles her mental health. She is going through all these hardships and yet she still prevails as an elegant and strong role through out the film. This costume is very glam and best worn in the evening. Think Halloween night at a divey bar or local club where live music is played.
Truman Burbank from The Truman Show
Truman Burbank played by Jim Carrey is a young insurance salesman living in the town of Seahaven where he was born and raised. Truman has been living a very average life. Such a normal life that he doesn’t realize the entire country has been watching him live it since he was born and that Seahaven is actually a movie set. All of his friends and loved ones are also paid actors. With his hopes to leave Seahaven and travel to Fiji the truth begins to unfold for Truman. This costume is casual and sort of a business type outfit. The look should be easy to put together and comfortable to wear all day.
