Women
Trish Walker from Jessica Jones
Trish Walker (played by Rachael Taylor) is a secondary protagonist in the television show Jessica Jones. She is driven and ambitious woman whose distaste for injustice has led her into dangerous situations over and over again. Her need to see justice served nearly pushes her into the antagonist role more than a few times and causes a lot of tension with Jessica and the other people in Trish’s life. But that’s a fine line to walk when Jessica is just as reckless and Marvel’s New York is a very dangerous place!
The key to cosplaying as Trish is to tap into her style. She favors blazers and silk blouses. She pairs these with leather pants and stilettos. She wears her long blonde hair either down or in a ponytail. And no matter what she wears she carries herself with an attitude just as fierce as her best friend’s.
Alpha from The Walking Dead
In The Walking Dead, Alpha (Samantha Morton) is the leader of the Whisperers and the mother of Lydia. She’s known to be highly intelligent, cunning, and ruthless, taking sadistic pleasure in slaughtering anyone who challenges her authority. Her real name and past unknown, Alpha has completely shed her identity from before the outbreak, embracing herself just as a survivor of the post-apocalypse.
Sam Montgomery from A Cinderella Story
Sam Montgomery (Hilary Duff) is the protagonist of A Cinderella Story, a modern adaptation of the fairytale. Sam is the Cinderella character, bossed around by her cruel stepmother and stepsisters. She is shy and quiet with a love for baseball, which she learned from her late father. She confides in her online pen pal, who’s actually Austin Ames, the most popular guy at school. When he asks her to meet at the Halloween dance, Sam dresses as a masked princess. Instead of a slipper, she loses her phone, and Austin tries to figure out her identity. This costume guide features her baseball look and uniform at her stepmother’s diner.
Tecna from Winx Club
Tecna (voiced by Domitilla D’Amico in the Italian versions and Morgan Decker in the English versions) is one of the six core members of the Winx club and the fourth introduced in the series. She is also the Fairy of Technology and the Guardian Fairy of her home planet Zenith. Her boyfriend Timmy is know as the brains of The Specialists and works along side the significant others of several other Winx Club members, all of whom attended the Red Fountain School.
In both her forms Tecna favors the color purple with the exception being her hot pink hair and her silver accents. As a human she wears a purple crop top, purple mini skirt, and purple leggings. Her silver boots can be worn for both costumes. In fairy form though she wears a purple bodysuit and silver gloves as well as a silver cap that a headband can stand in for. Green wire is perfect for her simple wings after just a little bit of bending!
Asaka from Once On This Island
Asaka is one of the four gods in Once On This Island. The people on the island worship her as Mother of Earth, praying for her to “grow me a garden.” Asaka helps Ti Moune navigate the wild in her song “Mama Will Provide.” Glee star Alex Newell played this role in the 2018 Broadway revival. Clint Ramos designed this uniquely original costume; his concepts were inspired by the aftermath of natural disasters in the Caribbean. To make the skirt like the design, wrap the tablecloth around your waist. Use the fake leaves and flowers to embellish the headdress.
Enola Holmes
Enola Holmes is the main character of the Netflix movie, Enola Holmes. Alongside being the eponymous protagonist, she is the movie’s narrator. Based on the YA books written by Nancy Springer, Enola is the teenage sister of the famous detective Sherlock Holmes. Like her brother, she possesses incredible intelligence and observational skills, defying the gender norms for the era. Clever and well-read, her mother taught her everything from chess to jujitsu. Following her mother’s disappearance, she travels to London. Pretending to be a traditional Victorian woman, she deciphers and deduces the clues. Millie Bobby Brown, who you may recognize as Eleven from Stranger Things, plays the title role. This costume guide features her notable red gown, her casual blue dress (not pictured), and outfit for archery in the living room. While we can’t see the bottom half of Enola for that last look, we suggest matching white pants or a long white skirt.
Leslie Knope from Parks and Recreation
Leslie Knope (played by Amy Poehler) is the perpetually optimistic and highly-driven civil servant who anchors her co-workers and friends on Parks and Recreation. Leslie’s dedication to her job inspires others, even her Libertarian co-worker and friend Ron Swanson, to do their best for their community. Leslie aspires to be President one day and typically wears sensible pants suits while working at the parks department in Pawnee, IN. For a true Leslie Knope look, you’ll also need a relentlessly positive go-getter attitude and a binder full of ideas (or maybe just Leslie’s thoroughly researched book “Pawnee: The Greatest Town in America”).
Lila Pitts from the Umbrella Academy
Lila Pitts (Ritu Arya) is a character in season two of Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy. First introduced as Diego’s fellow psychiatric patient, Lila has a secret behind her witty comebacks and street smarts. She is actually the adopted daughter of The Handler — peep the red boots — and possesses the power of mimicry. She helps carry out her plan to track down Number Five, who supposedly killed her parents. She uses her powers to maim the Hargreeves siblings, but her love for Diego prompts her to turn on her adoptive mother. Emulate her spunky sixties style with choppy hair and smudged eyeshadow.
Oz from Monster Prom
Oz is the yellow playable character in the visual novel game Monster Prom. Oz is established as non-binary with masculine pronouns by default (though these pronouns can be changed in-game). Oz is made entirely of fear, which accounts for his appearance as being made of dark matter. His school clothes include a golden yellow cardigan and dark grey pants, with a gold watch. To create Oz’s look, you can use a black body suit and add his white eyes and eyebrows with fabric pens. If you’re feeling particularly creative, you could craft the small black creatures (who represent individual phobias) that attach to him by using black felt, a little stuffing, and the same white fabric pens.
Jadis the White Witch from The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
Jadis, also known as the White Witch (played by Tilda Swinton) is the primary antagonist of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. She is the person responsible for freezing Narnia in its one Hundred Years Winter. Jadis’ clothing is typically white and grey, and she wears a crown of ice with a long wand. It can be difficult to find an exact replica of her more specialized accessories, but a similar look can be achieved with smaller and more understated crystals.
