Women
Punky Brewster
When it came to rambunctious 80’s icons there were few that could compete with Punky Brewster. Armed with her dog, a motley crew of friends, and a mismatched wardrobe, Punky won over the heart of Henry and the American public alike. All you need for the same look are a few layered shirts, ripped up jeans, and mismatched shoes.
Enid Coleslaw
In Ghost World, Enid Coleslaw (Thora Birch) is a cynical teenager with a creative side that shows in her attire. Pairing clashing patterns and vintage eyeglasses, Enid’s style requires you to have an “I don’t care” attitude because you’re probably going to raise some eyebrows. In fact, you may want to work on your witty comebacks.
Tina Belcher
Tina Belcher (voiced by Dan Mintz), the eldest daughter on Bob’s Burgers, takes teenage angst to a new level. Her functional retro style takes her from mornings pining over Jimmy Jr. to evenings flipping burgers. With the time left over, she can practice Capoeira… or at least make sure her siblings stay out of trouble.
Rebecca Doppelmeyer
In Ghost World, Rebecca Doppelmeyer (Scarlett Johansson) may feel like an outsider but she looks like the average teenage girl. Dressed in long sleeve T-shirts and solid color skirts, her wardrobe is straight out of a Gap catalog which makes it easy to recreate. The eccentric best friend is optional.
Claire Standish
Leather and the color pink, those are the two things that sum up the look of Claire Standish. The popular girl wore plenty of both and while her outfit may have been expensive, these days you can score some similar items for relatively cheap. You don’t even need to wear real diamonds. However, you may be asked to perform the lipstick trick in which case we suggest a high quality brand. It makes it a little classier.
Log Lady
Dressed in earth tones and red glasses, the Log Lady could easily pass as anyone’s peculiar aunt or even Sally Jessy Raphael’s doppelganger. However, it’s her timber fashion accessory that really sets her apart. Of course, we don’t expect you to scour the woods for a clairvoyant log. You can just use your imagination on that one.
Amelie
Amelie is a shy waitress living in Paris, who finds pleasure in the simple things in life like skipping rocks and cracking the hard shell on creme brûlée. She decides to improve the lives of others around her after she finds a keepsake box in her apartment. Little did she know she’d end up helping herself by finding love!
Regan from The Exorcist
In The Exorcist, Regan (Linda Blair) is a young girl possessed by the demon Pazuzu and requires an exorcism to free her. Although you may be able to recreate Regan’s demonic look, it isn’t quite the same without the head spinning and projectile vomiting. Rumor has it that in the movie, split pea soup was used for the green-colored vomit.
Mathilda from Leon: The Professional
In Léon: The Professional, Natalie Portman debuts as Mathilda Lando, a street-smart girl who witnesses the murder of her dysfunctional family by corrupt DEA agents. She is taken in by a hitman named Léon who trains her to use guns, and in turn she teaches him to read. How sweet.
Nanny from Muppet Babies
We never see Nanny’s face in the Muppet Babies series, but her characteristic green and white striped stockings and purple sneakers always stood out. Though we assume she’s human, it’s also quite possible she could be a Muppet as well.
