Cosplay Predictions for 2024
The convention season has already begun, and cosplayers are already setting trends with their favorite fandoms. Ranging from anime to video games to everything in between, let’s dive into Carbon Costume’s cosplay predictions for 2024.
Anime
Jujutsu Kaisen
The recent, highly anticipated Shibuya arc of Jujutsu Kaisen will lend itself to lots more cosplay. The school uniform is a simple choice for multiple characters. Saturo Gojo currently reigns supreme as the most popular character to cosplay, but our predictions skew towards his close friend Suguru Geto, as well as the latest villain, Mahito. Nanami is an easy costume too – no spoilers as to why he may be more popular than before.

Trigun Stampede
Reimagined from the 90s manga/anime series, Trigun returns as TRIGUN STAMPEDE. A now adult Vash the Stampede is a dangerous outlaw, seeking a way to peacefully resolve the differences between humans and plants. When Vash teams up with investigative reporters Meryl Stryfe and Roberto De Niro, a new adventure begins. The revival of this classic is sure to excite old fans while garnering new ones.
One Piece
Finally – the anime live action adaptation curse is broken. Netflix’s One Piece was a hit with critics, newcomers, and OG fans alike. Monkey D. Luffy, wonderfully portrayed by Iñaki Godoy, wants to become the King of Pirates. With his new companions – Nami (Emily Rudd), Zoro (Mackenyu), Sanji (Taz Skylar), and Usopp (Jacob Romero Gibson) – Luffy forms a pirate crew to search for the One Piece. Just two weeks after its premiere, the show was renewed for second season, now in active development.
TV Shows
I Think You Should Leave
The Emmy-winning sketch comedy series I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson has been a massive success. Its success has been best seen on the Internet, as its absurdist humor gives way to meme-able screencaps and dialogue. If you’ve watched an episode, you’ll quickly find its quotes becoming a part of your natural vocabulary, such as “Are you sure about that?” or “This is slicked back.” Robinson plays a whole cast of ridiculous characters, which make for sidesplitting cosplays.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians
Calling all half-bloods – Percy Jackson and the Olympians brought gods, monsters, and more to Disney+. As author Rick Riordan had more creative control, series took some liberties in reshaping the story while retaining the main quest of retrieving Zeus’ master bolt. It has already been confirmed for a second season, which will presumably dive into the second book. An easy cosplay idea is wearing the orange camp shirt plus accessories for the character, such as a gold sword (Riptide) for Percy or a Yankees cap for Annabeth.

Avatar the Last Airbender
Hopefully not as disastrous as the 2005 M. Night Shyamalan movie – a live action Avatar: The Last Airbender gets another try from Netflix. Compared to the original Nickelodeon show, there have been some adjustments. However, the series is absolutely meant for the now-adults who wish to see a new take on the story. The costume designs are particularly outstanding and quite accurate to the character and cultures represented. The series is currently available for streaming.

Web Series
Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss
Hazbin Hotel is an animated musical about Charlie Morningstar, daughter of Lucifer and princess of Hell. In order to rehabilitate wayward souls and reduce Hell’s population, she opens a hotel – hence “Hazbin Hotel.” The pilot from 2019 now has its own show on Prime video, with an eight episode first season. Set in the same world, Helluva Boss is a spin-off that revolves around the misadventures of the employees of I.M.P, a company in Hell that offers hitman services in the realm of the living. Already both series from the Vizie-verse has garnered lots of cosplay of both angels and demons.

Movies
Mean Girls
Get in loser, we’re cosplaying from Mean Girls. Twenty years later, the cult classic chick-flick received a movie musical adaptation with songs from the Broadway production. New girl Cady Heron joins the Plastics to get dirt on queen bee Regina George. Yet when Cady develops a crush on Regina’s ex-boyfriend, things quickly become personal. Pink is essential for a Mean Girls inspired look or cosplay – especially on Wednesdays.
Beetlejuice 2
The ghost with the most returns in September 2024 . Aptly titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Tim Burton returns to direct the sequel about the iconic “bio-exorcist.” The movie will introduce Astrid Deetz, portrayed by Jenna Ortega – who’s a great fit given her roles as Wednesday Addams (Wednesday) and Tara Carpenter (Scream). Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara will all reprise their roles from the original 1988 movie.
Deadpool 3
At long last, Deadpool joins the MCU with Deadpool and Wolverine, set to release in July 2024. The Superbowl commercial has fans hyped and ready to see the stern Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and wisecracking Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) team up. Paired with the animated X-Men 97 series – coming to Disney+ in March – this could be the start of an X-Men cosplay renaissance.
Video Games
Baldur’s Gate 3
Perhaps the most talked about video game of 2024, Baldur’s Gate 3 puts you at the helm of a Dungeons and Dragons inspired adventure. As the third installment in the series, it’s already won several awards for Game of the Year. From the cunning, cheeky Astarion to the passionate, battle-ready Karlach, the companions provide cosplay options for everyone. Or you can cosplay your own character, commonly referred to as “Tav,” since that’s the default name during customization.
